The Mekong River Delta in Vietnam, also called South Western Region, is home to hundreds of fisheries factories. The population of the region, according to General Statistics Office of Vietnam, was 17,478.9 thousand people. The Mekong Delta is adjacent to Ho Chi Minh City to the North, borders Cambodia to the West and possesses a long coastal line to the East, South and Southwestern.

I myself have been to the region for countless times to visit seafood factories but I have to admit that I am not familiar at all to the directions of the provinces, and I have no idea how they are linked to one another.

Hence, I took some geography lessons from Google and would like to share with you about what I learned about this amazing region. I have devided this brief post into 2 parts: what South Western Region comprises of and a short map of the region.

Hopefully, it would be an interesting guide when you are on your next trip to this place, visiting a seafood factory. And maybe you can surpise your suppliers or partners by letting them know what you already know of this place. :)

So let's start.

Long An province, about 50 km away from the center of Ho Chi Minh city, is the gateway connecting the city with the Mekong Delta, sharing several important roads with Ho Chi Minh City, such as National route 1A, and National route 50. Meanwhile, Ca Mau is the most southernmost point - the tip of the country.

Below is a brief map of each province and city in the Mekong Delta, with each color seperating one area. So next time, when you are in a car heading towards Can Tho, you will know you have to travel through Long An, Tien Giang and Vinh Long before reaching the place!
